Bill’s Postings Vol. 2
Bill’s latest column for the Palm Beach Post is on one of my favourite local bands, The Dillengers. This rockabilly/surf-rock/country/blues combo is something of an institution in South Florida, after seventeen years of existence. In particular, this trio has logged numerous nights at Elwood’s, a former gas station by the railroad tracks in Delray Beach converted (barely) into a blues bar and barbecue joint (motto: “Eat Here. Get Gas”).
The group’s most recent CD, 2004’s Instro-mania (album cover pictured above), was actually re-released nationally on Favoured Nations, a record label founded by legendary guitarist Steve Vai. Read Bill’s column here, but feel free to leave any comments for Bill with this post, since he’s blog-deprived on the Post site.
My ’80s, Vol. 1: The First Picture of Summer
“First Picture of You” was the debut single of British New Wave group The Lotus Eaters, and it went all the way to the top of the English charts in 1983. I think they played this song one time on a Jamaican FM station, but my sister was quick enough to tape it, so that became a small part of my high school soundtrack. Here’s the video:
